Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
MAKING BREAST CANCER A MANAGEABLE DISEASE (SIMILAR TO DIABETES) TAKES AN ORGANIZATION WITH EXTRAORDINARY VISION & CUTTING-EDGE TACTICS. THE SIDE-OUT FOUNDATION IS A 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, FOUNDED IN 2004 BY RICHARD AND BRYANT DUNETZ, TO EMPOWER A NEW GENERATION OF ADVOCATES, MAKE SIGNIFICANT AND IDENTIFIABLE IMPACT ON THE WAY BREAST CANCER IS TREATED, AND GIVE THOSE LIVING WITH METASTATIC BREAST CANCER (MBC) MORE TOMORROWS.SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE FOUNDATION HAS (I) BUILT EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY-DRIVEN PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON TEACHING ADVOCACY TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF CHANGEMAKERS, EQUIPPING THEM WITH SKILLS AND TOOLS TO SUPPORT SIDE-OUT'S MISSION, AS WELL AS ANY CAUSE THEY WISH TO CONNECT TO IN THEIR FUTURE; (II) FORGED GROUNDBREAKING COLLABORATIONS WITH PRESTIGIOUS RESEARCH TEAMS, HOSPITALS, AND RESEARCH CENTERS NATIONWIDE AND; (III) LEVERAGED NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO IMPROVE, ALTER CANCER TRAJECTORIES, AND CONSTANTLY CHALLENGE THE FOUNDATION OF CANCER CARE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
FUNDS RAISED IN 2021 THROUGH THE FOUNDATION'S TWO ADVOCACY PROGRAMS DIG PINK AND THE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM WERE USED FOR THE ADVANCEMENT AND EXPANSION OF SIDE-OUT'S NEWEST METASTATIC BREAST CANCER (MBC) RESEARCH STUDY. SERVING 50 PATIENTS IN ITS PILOT LAUNCH IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, THIS PROGRAM HARNESSES MULTI-OMIC ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS TO IDENTIFY TREATMENT RESPONSE PREDICTORS. SUCH A REVOLUTIONARY APPROACH PROVIDES MBC PATIENTS AND THEIR ONCOLOGISTS A PRECISE ANALYSIS, OUTLINING TREATMENT SOLUTIONS AND CLINICAL TRIALS THAT MAY BENEFIT AN INDIVIDUAL PATIENT BASED ON THEIR CANCER'S UNIQUE MOLECULAR ARCHITECTURE. IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION SERVED 102 PATIENTS, PROVIDING THEM WITH THIS COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS TO ALLOW THEM TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL CANCER JOURNEY. WHILE DIRECTLY HELPING CANCER PATIENTS, THIS PROGRAM ALSO COLLECTED BIOMARKER DATA FOR THE DIVERSIFICATION OF SIDE-OUT'S ONE-OF-A-KIND, RELATIONAL BIOINFORMATICS PORTAL. THIS ONE-OF-A-KIND COLLECTION OF MBC DATA ALLOWS SCIENCE TO ADVANCE AND AFFORDS THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER NEW TARGETS, NEW TREATMENTS, AND NEW PATHWAYS TO EXTEND THE LIVES OF THOSE FACED WITH THIS DISEASE. THE FOUNDATION'S OWN DISCOVERIES HAVE BEEN PRESENTED AT THE SAN ANTONIO BREAST CANCER SYMPOSIUM IN DECEMBER OF 2021 (THE SIDE-OUT 3 TRIAL) AND PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR ONCOLOGY (THE SIDE-OUT 2 TRIAL). MOLECULAR ONCOLOGY IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS JOURNALS IN THE ONCOLOGY CATEGORY. SIDE-OUT'S WORK (HTTPS://PUBMED.NCBI.NLM.NIH.GOV/34437759/) HAS SHOWN THAT THE MULTI-OMIC APPROACH WE PROPOSED IN THE TRIAL IMPROVED CLINICAL OUTCOMES OF PATIENTS WITH AGGRESSIVE MBC AND CONTINUES TO BE A BASIS FOR OUR RESEARCH MOVING FORWARD.
