FROM THE SCHOOL HOUSE TO THE WHITE HOUSE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM: AN EXPERIENTIAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH TARGETS UNDERSERVED AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRLS, 10TH - 12TH GRADES, FROM CRENSHAW, DORSEY, WASHINGTON PREPARATORY, KING DREW MAGNET AND MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS SOUTH CENTRAL LOS ANGELES. THE OBJECTIVE IS PLACED ON PREPARING THE STUDENTS TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL, BEING PREPARED FOR COLLEGE, AND PREPARED FOR THE 21ST CENTURY WORKFORCE, THROUGH A SERIES OF LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS, AND FIELD TRIPS THROUGHOUT THE NINE MONTH SCHOOL YEAR. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING TRAINING IN EFFECTIVE DECISION MAKING SKILLS, TEAM BUILDING, AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS, THEY ARE ALSO EXPOSED TO "SOFT SKILLS" TO IMPROVE THEIR CONFIDENCE AND SELF-AWARENESS. DURING THE NINE MONTH PERIOD, THE STUDENTS ARE ALSO INTRODUCED TO STEAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS, AND MATHEMATICS) CAREERS, WITH EMPHASIS ON ENGINEERING AND MATH TO BOOST THEIR MATH SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING OF MATH CONCEPTS. THE LONG TERM OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM ARE: (1) FUTURE RESPONSIBLE AND ETHICAL LEADERS, WHO POSSESS SKILLS TO GROW AND DEVELOP ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS FOR A POSITION OF LEADERSHIP IN THEIR COMMUNITY, CORPORATE AMERICA, POLITICS, AND BEYOND; (2) TO EXPAND THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM TO OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES; AND (3) TO CONTINUE TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING SENIORS.
LEADERSHIP ACADEMY PROGRAM: DURING THE LAST SEVNTEEN YEARS, THE ORGANIZATION HAS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS TO 114 STUDENTS, TOTALING OVER $335,418 TO DESERVING GRADUATING STUDENTS FROM WASHINGTON PREPARATORY, CRENSHAW HIGH, AND DORSEY HIGH SCHOOLS. SINCE THE INCEPTION OF, "FROM THE SCHOOL HOUSE TO THE WHITE HOUSE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM," THE ORGANIZATION HAS CONTINUED TO TARGET GRADUATING SENIORS FROM THEIR PROGRAM, WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED FOR A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS. THE LONG-TERM GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE MORE SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING SENIORS, AS THE ORGANIZATION EXPANDS THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM TO OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS IN DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES.
