THE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES FIRE PROTECTION AND EMERGENCY SERVICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE AND TOWN OF SKANEATELES. WHEN CALLED UPON, THE DEPARTMENT WILL ALSO RESPOND TO SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. THE DEPARTMENT IS STAFFED COMPLETELY BY UNPAID VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE TRAINED AS FIRE FIGHTING AND EMERGENCY SERVICE PROFESSIONALS. MEMBERS CONDUCT FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES TO PROVIDE REVENUE FOR THE PURCHASE AND MAINTENANCE OF FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT.

THE PROGRAM SERVICE PROVIDED BY THE SKANEATELES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT DURING THE FISCAL YEAR JANUARY 1, 2021 TO DECEMBER 31, 2021 ACHIEVED THE FOLLOWING: FIRE CALLS 246 (INCLUDES STRUCTURE FIRES, ALARMS, FLOODED BASEMENTS, STORM RELATED DAMAGE) RESCUE 16 EMS 94 MOTOR VEH ACC 44 MUTUAL AID 57 (AID TO OTHER FIRE STATIONS IN THE SURROUNDING AREA) THE TOTAL CALLS FOR 2021 WAS 400. THERE WERE 126 TRAINING/DRILL SESSIONS. THERE ARE 58 ACTIVE MEMBERS IN THE SKANEATELES VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY. IN ADDITION TO RESPONDING TO TOTAL CALLS AND TRAINING/DRILL SESSIONS, MANY HOURS WERE SPENT IN MONTHLY MEETINGS,COMMITTEE MEETINGS, ADMINISTRATIVE WORK AND GENERAL FIRE DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE.
