HOME PURCHASE PROGRAM: HOMEOWNERSHIP IS ESSENTIAL FOR FAMILIES TO BUILD STRENGTH, STABILITY AND SELF-DETERMINATION. WITH SO MANY FAMILIES BEING PRICED OUT OF AN INCREASINGLY EXPENSIVE RENTAL MARKET, WE BELIEVE THAT HARD-WORKING NEW YORKERS DESERVE ACCESS TO PURCHASE A SAFE, AFFORDABLE HOME. THAT'S WHY DEVELOPING BOTH SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES AND MULTI-FAMILY BUILDINGS FOR LOW-TO MODERATE-INCOME NEW YORKERS IS AT THE VERY HEART OF OUR MISSION. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2021, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NEW YORK CITY AND WESTCHESTER CONTINUED TO DEVELOP, BUILD, AND RECONSTRUCT APPROXIMATELY 370 HOUSING UNITS IN QUEENS AND BROOKLYN WITH ADDITIONAL HOUSING UNITS IN MANHATTAN AND THE BRONX IN THE PIPELINE. ALL LOCATIONS ARE FINANCED BY PRIVATE CONTRIBUTIONS AND IN SOME CASES ADDITIONAL FUNDS PROVIDED BY THE CITY OF NEW YORK. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2021, WE HAVE HOUSED 51 FAMILIES.
HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM: WE CANNOT BUILD OUR WAY OUT OF OUR AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS, WHICH IS WHY IT IS CRITICAL FOR US TO WORK WITH EXISTING TENANT-OWNED AFFORDABLE BUILDINGS TO KEEP THEM AFFORDABLE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. OUR HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM IS A HOLISTIC PROGRAM THAT WORKS WITH INDIVIDUAL BUILDINGS ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS, PROVIDING LOW-COST SERVICES FROM CONSTRUCTION, FINANCIAL EDUCATION, LEGAL MONITORING AND MORE. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2021, OUR HOUSING PRESERVATION PROGRAM WORKED WITH 19 INCOME RESTRICTED, AFFORDABLE CO-OPS COMPRISED OF 316 UNITS ACROSS THE BRONX, BROOKLYN, AND MANHATTAN. THESE SERVICES, PROVIDED AT AN AFFORDABLE COST TO THE CO-OP, KEEP COSTS LOW AND ENSURE THAT RESIDENTS CAN REMAIN IN THEIR HOMES.
VOLUNTEERISM: MANY OF OUR PROGRAMS DEPEND UPON THE SUPPORT OF VOLUNTEERS WHO DONATE THEIR TIME AND SERVICE. FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 2021, WE WORKED WITH APPROXIMATELY 600 VOLUNTEERS FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE TO COMMUNITY SPACES ACROSS NEW YORK.
