CRITERIA FOR GRANTING THE AWARD WILL BE BASED ON ATHLETICS, ACADEMICS, LEADERSHIP, AND CITIZENSHIP, QUALITIES EPITOMIZED BY THE LIFE AND CAREER OF THE AWARD'S NAMESAKE, MR. JOHNNY UNITAS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO GRANTS ANNUAL COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS, MAKES GRANTS TO LOCAL ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL LEAGUES AND TEAMS, AND OBTAINS SPEAKERS FOR THE ANNUAL AWARD CEREMONY
