THE COALITION'S MAIN PURPOSE IS TO REDUCE INJURIES IN DANE COUNTY, WI. THE ORGANIZATION COORDINATES COUNTY-WIDE, COLLABORATIVE CAMPAIGNS AND EVIDENCE-BASED INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS DANE COUNTY'S TOP CAUSES OF SERIOUS INJURY AND INJURY-RELATED DEATHS- DRUG POISONING, SUICIDE, TRAFFIC CRASHES AND FALLS AMONG OLDER ADULTS. TO CONDUCT THESE ACTIVITIES, THE COALITION BUILDS PARTNERSHIP AMONG DIVERSE ORGANIZATIONS THAT SHARE THE COALITION'S PURPOSE. SAFE COMMUNITIES EVALUATES ITS PROGRAMS AND HAS DEMONSTRATED A STRONG TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS. FOR EXAMPLE, ONE COALITION PROGRAM HAS BEEN SHOWN TO REDUCE FALLS AMONG PARTICIPATING OLDER ADULTS BY 50%. SAFE COMMUNITIES IS A MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF SAFE COMMUNITIES AS DESIGNATED BY THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION CENTRE ON COMMUNITY SAFETY PROMOTION.
