BERGEN SWAN WORKS TO PROTECT AND SAFEGUARD THE RESERVOIR REGION OF THE UPPER HACKENSACK RIVER WATERSHED AND ADJOINING AREAS BY ADVOCATING, TEACHING, AND REALIZING OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION, GOOD ECOLOGICAL STEWARDSHIP PRACTICES, AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION.

EACH YEAR THE ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHES AN AGENDA IN THE ANNUAL MEETING IN ORDER TO CARRY OUT ITS' FUNCTIONS OF PROTECTING THE NEW JERSEY COASTLINE. THE ORGANIZATION COLLECTS DUES FROM ITS' MEMBERS, THE PROCEEDS OF WHICH ARE USED TO CARRY OUT ITS FUNCTIONS OF PROTECTING THE NEW JERSEY COASTLINE. A SUMMER CELEBRATION IS HELD ANNUALLY AS A FUND RAISING EVENT AND TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY EDUCATION OF THE FUNCTIONS AND EFFORTS OF THE ORGANIZATION.

Included are conservation of the nations forests, rangeland, vegetation, deserts, wild and scenic rivers and other wilderness areas and open land spaces; and reestablishment of areas that have been devastated by destructive activities such as strip mining or other destructive activities.
